Personal Space...Who Needs It?

Published over 1 year ago • 2 min read

I do! I need, want, like, enjoy my personal space.

What does that even mean?

Does it have something to do with how much space you physically, emotionally, mentally, spiritually, sexually take up?

Or does it have to do with how much space others take up when they are around you?

Or something else entirely?

Notice, that the first two I mentioned are in reference to you.

That is not selfish, it's actually a huge kindness to yourself to pay attention to how your body responds to the physical space around you and in connection with others,

The emotional space around you and in connection with others,

The mental, spiritual, sexual space....All. Of. It.

Can I offer a Sideways approach here? Meaning......

Can you pay attention to how you are viewing what you think.....

What you feel....

And how your body responds to these thoughts I've offered about personal space.

Are you resistant to your right to take up space in any or all of these areas? Or does it feel good to take up space?

What if it's ok for you to take up space when you are alone but it's not ok when other people are around? Or vice versa?

I'm offering some opportunities here for more Sideways thinking, viewing and body sensation awareness because we are fully into the holiday season.

It's a time of so many wonderful things and also a time of so many hard things too, so I want to give you more tools as the holidays continue to approach.

Sometimes, when we get back around family or friends we haven't seen in a while, or ones who don't know all the change and growth we have experienced......

Our bodies want to go back to old beliefs and patterns, ways of being, because our body is seeking safety.

I offer Sideways awareness prompts to get you back into your pre-frontal cortex and out of your survival brain.

To get you connecting with your internal strength, power and wisdom so you can remember your growth and act like the better version of you, who creates her own safety - even when you are around family and friends who might not know this new you.

And it's ok to set boundaries and interact differently too.

You know what is best.

You know your personal space and how much you have a right to and can give others their right to space too and neither person needs to have less or more.

We each have our own.

I see you.

I know holidays can be hard.

You have tools.

You have you.

And you have those you choose, to connect with and love.

What are you thoughts about personal space?

I'd love to hear it all.

P.S. Hugs can be a violation of personal space too. I offered some tips on this in an email back in June that you can access HERE.

Or my instagram post on it as well HERE.

Not Every Tool Works Every Time Series Continued... Learning about trauma can be really helpful. In fact, trauma education is on my list of Top Down tools because it can explain why we act certain ways. When trauma takes over, we can understand that we are not crazy, we’re just reacting to what happened to us. And, even if other people don’t get it, learning about trauma can be a way to help them understand us better. But it’s important to remember, we’re not learning about trauma to convince...

Not Every Tool Works Every Time Series Continued... In the work of healing trauma, I often invite others (and myself) to notice different things in our body. To notice, means to pay attention. To turn inward. I share something and offer a noticing practice by asking you to notice what is happening in your body.... Or notice what is not happening.... And notice what your mind or heart might be doing.... And notice your breath.... This is a short list of things we could notice. And any of these...

Not Every Tool Works Every Time Series Continued... Vagal Stimulation is a big thing right now. And I love it! Makes sense to me because there are lots of awesome tools included in what is called vagal stimulation. There are tools to stimulate the eyes, the ears, the face.... Try this Eye One Or this Eye One Or this Ear One Or this Facial Acupressure And these are only some of the tools. The vagus nerve is like a traveler. It's called the wandering nerve because it goes all over our body....
