Hi! I'm Cami

What do you want to Savor and completely enjoy today?

Published about 1 year ago • 2 min read

I love to get on different websites and check out what each month has to offer for daily, weekly and monthly holidays. Here is one I used today. Or another one Here.

This month did not disappoint and was full of fun!

Some that jumped out to me were....

  • Women's History Month
  • Day of Awesomeness
  • Awkward Moment Day
  • Goof Off Day
  • Day of Happiness
  • Different Cake Days
  • Days Celebrating Mermaids..
    • Pianos,
    • Magic Tricks,
    • Walks in the Park,
    • Quirky Country Music Songs,
  • Make Up Your Own Holiday Day (that sounds fun...what would I make up? What day would you make up?)

So fun, right?!?

As I read through these lists, I enjoyed the memories that came up. Did any fun memories come up for you?

Each day I wrote down had something fun attached to it and made me smile.

This is an example of Savoring.

And yes, since this month is all about Polyvagal....Savoring is a polyvagal tool.

A tool to be able to really enjoy the moments that light you up....

Savoring is the practice of 1st - noticing things that happen in your everyday life that bring you into a ventral state (connected to yourself or others).

-Maybe it's a glimmer (I explain those Here),

-An awe inspiring moment (I explained this in last week's email "2 ways to activate your ventral vagus nerve").

-Being nourished in nature, (I explained this in last week's email too and you can get those Here).

-Or just something that made you smile today.

Once you notice you are in this ventral state, the 2nd part of Savoring is to Focus on that moment,

3rd - Hold the moment in awareness and see if you can stay in appreciation for 20-30 sec. (start slowly and build up capacity to stay for 30 sec).

I invite you to try it out and notice how many things actually light you up throughout the day.

If you notice there are not very many, do you want to seek to create more? Why or why not?

I find it super helpful to keep a record in a journal or on my phone of these small moments throughout my day, moments when I am in ventral.

It sometimes amazes me how often they come.

And sometimes I judge myself for "not having enough" - whatever enough is.....

And that is a good way to then pay attention to my sideways....

Or trust my body and know that it's time to take a break and look for ventral moments later because looking for them when I'm judging myself can actually take me out of ventral.

And all of it is OK and wherever I am at in that given moment.

One last tip is to find a friend or someone you can share these ventral moments with.

Here you get a double whammy.....Ventral connection with self and in connection with others.

And you get a chance to use your voice to express authenticity and vulnerability.

So powerful!

I invite you to take a few seconds and enjoy a savoring practice today.

(And you can do these looking back on your day too, it doesn't have to be in the moment.) All of it is powerful work to build capacity and help us heal.

Remember, ❤️

You Matter. Your Healing Matters. You Are Worth It!

Not Every Tool Works Every Time Series Continued... Learning about trauma can be really helpful. In fact, trauma education is on my list of Top Down tools because it can explain why we act certain ways. When trauma takes over, we can understand that we are not crazy, we’re just reacting to what happened to us. And, even if other people don’t get it, learning about trauma can be a way to help them understand us better. But it’s important to remember, we’re not learning about trauma to convince...

Not Every Tool Works Every Time Series Continued... In the work of healing trauma, I often invite others (and myself) to notice different things in our body. To notice, means to pay attention. To turn inward. I share something and offer a noticing practice by asking you to notice what is happening in your body.... Or notice what is not happening.... And notice what your mind or heart might be doing.... And notice your breath.... This is a short list of things we could notice. And any of these...

Not Every Tool Works Every Time Series Continued... Vagal Stimulation is a big thing right now. And I love it! Makes sense to me because there are lots of awesome tools included in what is called vagal stimulation. There are tools to stimulate the eyes, the ears, the face.... Try this Eye One Or this Eye One Or this Ear One Or this Facial Acupressure And these are only some of the tools. The vagus nerve is like a traveler. It's called the wandering nerve because it goes all over our body....
