A Heart Chakra Tool for Valentine's Day

Published 2 months ago • 3 min read

Valentine’s Day Musings.....

Some people love a day devoted to love. Others hate it. Others are neutral about it.

How about you?

I invite you to offer yourself some dual awareness, meaning holding awareness of 2 things as the same time…..

How it works is, we let whatever came up be there.

If it can stay in your body, let it. If it needs to sit just outside your space, let that happen too. Or let it sit somewhere else. You choose.

Then while knowing it’s there I invite you to focus for a moment on the word love and not the day

I’d like to offer some info on our heart chakra as we explore the word love and I am curious if any of these things I share resonate with your understanding of love….

The Name.

The heart chakra is located in the heart space at the center of the chest.

It is the 4th chakra named Anahata. In Sanskrit it means, unhurt, unstruck and unbeaten.

Does any of that resonate with love for you?

The Senses.

Love is the central force of the heart chakra and is associated with the element of air, the color green and the seed sound “yam” (pronounced yum when offered as a meditative sound).

I love this part soo much!! The idea of bringing in our body by using our senses to facilitate the central force of love is very empowering for me.

Was there a sense here that you are curious about exploring?

The Body Connections.

When parts of our body feel balanced or not so balanced, our chakras can often give us information. It’s a great tool to help us learn the language of our body.

The heart chakra has a number of body parts associated with it and as I offer what these are, I first would offer you to consider what part of your body feels linked to love……

The chakra’s physical body associations are the heart, pericardium (membrane protecting the heart), thymus (gland that focuses on a healthy immune system), lungs, arms and hands.

As you read this list, or thought of other parts of your body…..

Did anything awaken, shut down, feel seen, want to hide, appreciate being noticed…..

What was your experience?

Is there a part of the chakras you’d like to think about more and sit with in your body?

The name…

The senses…

The body connections….

Does any of this offer a new way to feel love?

How about if we go back to the dual awareness and notice the heart chakra, as well as what came up for you in your body when I mentioned valentines day?

How does it feel to let both be there, within your heart, mind and body?

I know for me, I have been feeling some resistance to leaning into any celebration of this day. And feel the resistance as wanting to protect me…

So, here is a practice I am offering myself and encourage you to try it or see what your body wants to do based on the chakra info I shared….

  • I am going to do a short meditation.
  • I will set my timer for 2 minutes (and be sure to turn my sound to vibrate because no thank you for being startled out of a meditative place by a loud alarm!!)
  • I want to combine chakra info.
  • So I will place my hand over my heart as I reflect on the pericardium and all the ways my heart has sought to protect me (so using body connections), while I do a short meditative “YUM” (using my sense of hearing through sound and voice vibration).

At the end of this I could feel the resistance in my heart space change and loosen up. It’s not gone and that’s ok. I also got a lot more understanding and a reminder that love is not a reward but an action I get to choose to participate in or choose not to.

Thank you body.

Thank you chakras.

Thank you love.

I'd love to hear how this practice went for you or what you tried instead. Reach out via this email or on my socials.

Not Every Tool Works Every Time Series Continued... This is the last week of this series. Over the course of this last month we’ve talked about when different bottom up tools don’t work and what to do. When.... Meditation Vagal Stimulation Noticing Sensations Don't Work. I also shared what to do when Trauma Education doesn’t work. And today, I’d like to share what to do when the Sideways tool doesn’t work. Sideways means the watcher. It’s how we view our trauma triggers in our body and all...

Not Every Tool Works Every Time Series Continued... Learning about trauma can be really helpful. In fact, trauma education is on my list of Top Down tools because it can explain why we act certain ways. When trauma takes over, we can understand that we are not crazy, we’re just reacting to what happened to us. And, even if other people don’t get it, learning about trauma can be a way to help them understand us better. But it’s important to remember, we’re not learning about trauma to convince...

Not Every Tool Works Every Time Series Continued... In the work of healing trauma, I often invite others (and myself) to notice different things in our body. To notice, means to pay attention. To turn inward. I share something and offer a noticing practice by asking you to notice what is happening in your body.... Or notice what is not happening.... And notice what your mind or heart might be doing.... And notice your breath.... This is a short list of things we could notice. And any of these...
