Hunt for Happiness

Published over 1 year ago • 2 min read

How has January been treating so far?

Are you finding things that light you up amid all the focus on where you've been and where you want to go over the next year.

Don't get me wrong, I think spending time focusing on those things is super powerful, important work....

And I also believe that we can't forget.... The Fun. The Happiness. The Light You Up Things.....

Which can include, learning, doing something a little uncomfortable or maybe out of our scope of easy, and finding we actually love it!

And can include doing "the things", hoping we'll love it and finding out we don't.

And can include not doing anything at all and learning we love that sometimes too.

What else would it include for you?

Do you want to remember The Fun. The Happiness. The Light You Up Things.....?

Part of remembering for me is when I use the idea of a hunt or search.....

For something to explore, investigate, inquire about, or pursue.....

The hunt is about the trying, failing, discovering, succeeding, creating new ideas, trying again....etc....

All in search of The Fun. The Happiness. The Light You Up Things.....

This is a tool I like to use in my healing.

As trauma survivors, we can sometimes get so bogged down, feeling heavy and/or anxious about our healing journey.......

That we forget we can have fun!

Here's some of my fun.....

Part of healing is having our adult selves invite our younger selves to play and our younger selves play through us.

Many people with complex and developmental trauma, had to grow up too fast and missed out on play in their childhood.

If that was part of your trauma....

And/Or if there were other factors that caused you to miss out on play as a child and has led to some trauma....

I see you.

Your little girl deserves to play.

She always deserved it.

You can give it to her now.

Especially this time of year, when she might feel pressure to grow up again.

To act in certain "should" ways as she starts another year.

I encourage you to find something that lights you up, that you want to do now, as your adult self.

It's ok if it takes a little hunt and time to think and maybe a hunt for time to do it.....

And when you are ready, you can you reach a little deeper into that younger self, and see if she wants to join you......

Or finding out if there's something else you could do together, that might light her up a little more.

You got this.

Enjoy focusing on where you have been and where you want to go....

And I invite you to add some hunting, searching and exploring along the journey too.

Not Every Tool Works Every Time Series Continued... This is the last week of this series. Over the course of this last month we’ve talked about when different bottom up tools don’t work and what to do. When.... Meditation Vagal Stimulation Noticing Sensations Don't Work. I also shared what to do when Trauma Education doesn’t work. And today, I’d like to share what to do when the Sideways tool doesn’t work. Sideways means the watcher. It’s how we view our trauma triggers in our body and all...

Not Every Tool Works Every Time Series Continued... Learning about trauma can be really helpful. In fact, trauma education is on my list of Top Down tools because it can explain why we act certain ways. When trauma takes over, we can understand that we are not crazy, we’re just reacting to what happened to us. And, even if other people don’t get it, learning about trauma can be a way to help them understand us better. But it’s important to remember, we’re not learning about trauma to convince...

Not Every Tool Works Every Time Series Continued... In the work of healing trauma, I often invite others (and myself) to notice different things in our body. To notice, means to pay attention. To turn inward. I share something and offer a noticing practice by asking you to notice what is happening in your body.... Or notice what is not happening.... And notice what your mind or heart might be doing.... And notice your breath.... This is a short list of things we could notice. And any of these...
